Official New York Fashion Week SS27 ran 10-15 September 2026, with Ralph Lauren and Coach showing off-calendar on 9 September. The clothes moved. The data moved differently.

This season did not overturn the thesis we published in February. It sharpened it. Asian entertainment stars remain the primary engine of social volume. But SS27 also produced the cleanest illustration yet of a second, parallel week: the one that lives in digital newsrooms, where Gigi Hadid, Viola Davis and a Coach ambassador from Bangkok outrank the names that broke hashtag records.

All figures below cover 9–16 September 2026 and are sourced from Onclusive Social and Onclusive Monitor, unless noted. Brand and celebrity share of voice is calculated among 123 houses and 181 personalities measured for the window.

Key takeaways from New York Fashion Week SS27

Calvin Klein’s social monopoly tightened. The house took 64.94% of brand social SOV among 123 labels, higher than its 52.67% in February. The driver this time was not Jung Kook. It was Lingling Kwong.

Tommy Hilfiger became the second social house. At 19.81% social SOV, the Plaza Hotel show on 10 September was the week’s other volume engine, Gemini, Fourth, Phuwin, Jisoo and Girls’ Generation’s HRS unit, with Gigi Hadid opening the runway.

Social and news no longer describe the same week. Calvin Klein is first on social (64.94%) and seventh in digital news (3.81%). Ralph Lauren is tenth on social (0.18%) and first in digital news (7.64%).

Lingling owns social; Love Pattranite owns the papers. Lingling Kwong took 40.29% of celebrity social SOV. Love Pattranite, sitting front row at off-calendar Coach, took 12.17% of celebrity digital-news SOV, three times Gigi Hadid.

Hybrid hashtags still beat the event tag. #calvinklein (822,465) and the Lingling cluster all outran #nyfw (539,560). Audiences entered the week through a person × a house, not through the calendar.

Mainstream media had a third plot. 26,149 mainstream mentions , well above February’s 11,146 , spiked on 10, 11 and 14 September. The third peak followed PETA’s disruption of the COS show on the 13th, and CFDA CEO Steven Kolb’s altercation with activists.

The New York Fashion Week SS27 by the numbers

Social media

2.64 million mentions were recorded between 9 and 16 September, produced by 1.69 million authors and reaching an estimated 147.1 million.

The social peak landed on 11 September. Two shows explain it: Tommy Hilfiger’s Plaza presentation the evening before, still compounding through Thai and Korean fan accounts, and Calvin Klein Collection at Terminal Warehouse, where Lingling Kwong’s arrival as APAC face of the house detonated the largest hashtag cluster of the week.

Mainstream media

26,149 mentions ran across digital, print, television, radio and podcasts. The person × house tag is the product. #linglingkwongxcalvinklein (695,074), #tommyhilfigerxphuwin (391,319), #coachnyxloverrukk (281,955), #calvinkleinxsea (260,720) and #tommyhilfigerxgemini (249,772) are not decorations on a brand campaign. They are the unit of conversation. English-only event tracking that starts and ends at #nyfw (539,560) misses the majority of what happened.

2. One person fragments across four or five tags. Lingling’s cluster (#linglingkwongxcalvinklein + #linglingkwong + #calvinkleinss27xlingling) exceeds two million mentions before you add the house tags. Gemini appears as #gemini_nt and #tommyhilfigerxgemini. Fourth appears as #tommyss27xfourth and #tommyhilfigerxfourth. Monitoring a single canonical tag undercounts every APAC guest.

3. #lisa at 652,278 is a warning, not a trophy. Lisa was in New York for Bvlgari’s Serpenti Infinito, not for a CFDA runway. The tag is large because the name is large. Without a brand qualifier it will vacuum in every other Lisa conversation on earth. Pair it or lose the plot.

A monitoring note from this season’s working file: #nyfw itself is too broad to sit inside a celebrity query. It inflates every dashboard and explains nothing. Keep it as a separate event tracker

The off-calendar “problem“

The CFDA’s official schedule opened on Thursday 10 September with Diane von Furstenberg and closed on Tuesday 15 September with Thom Browne. Ralph Lauren presented Spring 2027 on Wednesday 9 September at Jack Shainman Gallery. Coach showed the same evening, with Rachel Comey, Cult Gaia, J. Press and Libertine also on the eve of official week.

The industry term is off-calendar (or off-schedule), not “off agenda.” The distinction matters for measurement. A window that starts on the 10th misses the show that won the newspapers. A window that starts on the 9th, as this extract does, captures Ralph Lauren and Coach and still finds Ralph Lauren at 0.18% social SOV. The house did not fail to show. It failed to trigger the fan-tag machine that now accounts for most social volume.

Vogue and Who What Wear treated the Ralph Lauren collection as one of the week’s clothes stories the velvet duster, the preppy-to-evening range, an entirely womenswear outing. That is why Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki and Meghann Fahy land on the news celebrity board. It is also why a social-only readout of SS27 would conclude, wrongly, that Ralph Lauren barely happened.

What the COS protest did to mainstream volume

COS is third on social (6.57%), lifted by KUN and Mew Suppasit, and fifth in digital news (4.00%). Part of the news number is fashion. Part of it is the 13 September disruption at WSA, 175 Water Street.

PETA activists entered the COS runway protesting the house’s use of wool. CFDA CEO Steven Kolb was filmed restraining two of them. The front row included Sharon Stone, John Boyega, Michelle Williams and Lupita Nyong’o. Kolb later apologised for acting “inappropriately.” PETA said its supporters had been assaulted. The videos moved through The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, WWD and the New York Post.

That sequence is the 14 September mainstream peak in the Onclusive Monitor data. It is a reminder that fashion-week media volume is not only earned by casting. It is also earned and spent when the industry’s own governance becomes the story. COS’s social rank was already a fandom rank. Its news rank is a hybrid of collection, casting and crisis.

Season-over-season: SS26, FW26, SS27

Metric

SS26 (Sep 2025)

FW26 (Feb 2026)

SS27 (Sep 2026)

Social mentions

2.71 million

2.03 million

2.64 million

Social reach

151.7

152.2 million

147.1 million

Mainstream mentions

17,927

11,146

26,149

CK social brand SOV

69.58%

52.67%

64.94%

Primary CK social driver

Jung Kook

Jennie

Lingling Kwong

SS26 and FW26 figures from Onclusive’s prior New York Fashion Week analyses. New York Fashion Week SS27: Onclusive Social and Monitor, 9–16 September 2026.

September remains larger than February on social, as it did a year ago. What changed is the mainstream line: 26,149 mentions, above both prior seasons in this series. Official week plus two off-calendar houses plus a protest that escaped the trades will do that.

Calvin Klein’s social share recovered from February’s 52.67% toward the September 2025 high-water mark, with a different ambassador. That is the playbook in one sentence: rotate the face, keep the fandom architecture. Jennie in February, Lingling in September, Jung Kook in the campaign layer (his Fall 2026 “Feel the Fit” chapter dropped on 16 September a New York dateline, not a front-row appearance). The house now runs a continuous celebrity operating system rather than a single-season stunt.

Tommy Hilfiger is the new second pillar on social. It was not the February story. The Plaza casting Gigi on the runway, a GMMTV trio in the room, Jisoo and HRS as ambassadors is what a house looks like when it decides to compete with Calvin Klein on the only field Calvin Klein has been winning.

Khaite, the FW26 breakout via Kazuha, does not appear in the SS27 social or news brand top 15. Ambassador effect is seasonal unless it is renewed.

Strategic implications from the New York Fashion Week SS27’s findings

For PR and communications

A show recap and a Getty gallery will put you on the news leaderboard. They will not put you on the social one. The social leaderboard is now built by guests whose fans already have a tagging grammar (Name × House, often in two scripts). If that guest is not in the room, you are competing for the leftover 15% of brand conversation.

For competitive intelligence

Read the two SOV tables together every season. A house that jumps on social and stays flat in news has rented a fandom. A house that jumps in news and stays flat on social has rented a front row. Only a handful Tommy this September, Coach via Love Pattranite did both.

For social listening teams

Configure Thai and Korean scripts before the week starts. Collapse hashtag variants into clusters or you will report Gemini as two mid-size tags instead of one large conversation. Do not drop #ralphlauren or #gigihadid from the watchlist because last week’s extract called them small. They are small in this workspace. They are not small in Vogue.

For casting

Love Pattranite is the brief. An APAC name who also clears English-language picture desks changes the math: one seat, two leaderboards. Lingling maximises social. Gigi maximises the clip. Love does a version of both. That is the scarce profile.

As the calendar moves to London, Milan and Paris, the question is no longer whether the Asian celebrity effect “works.” It works on social, every season it is funded. The question SS27 adds is whether a house can afford to win only that board. Ralph Lauren won the other one without the hashtags. Tommy tried to hold both. That is the competitive map leaving New York.

About the New York Fashion Week SS27 data
Data sourced from Onclusive Social and Onclusive Monitor, 9-16 September 2026.
